Are you looking for some FREE fun this summer? You don’t have to spend a ton of money to have a great time this summer. Check out the following activities that are big on fun, but low on cost. Keep in mind that any changing COVID considerations may vary depending on your area and preferences. Stay safe and have fun!
1. Pull an All-Nighter
Go from the sunset to stargazing to and sunrise! Bedtimes are for the school year! Why not schedule a time to watch the stars AND the sunrise together. Get some stargazing information (apps, books on constellation information) and have your camera ready to document the experience. Grab a friend or two, some fun snacks, and get ready to make some memories.
2. Enjoy a Movie Under the Stars
Many local parks show free movies outdoors once the summer really gets underway. Check with your town or county to see what areas are hopping with fun movie screenings near you. Remember to bring bug spray and your favorite movie snacks.
3. Dazzle with an Alternate Persona
If you’re out and about running errands, why not try out a new personality while you’re at it? Dig around to find clothes or accessories you rarely wear and put together an alternate persona you’ve always wanted to try out. Maybe you’re a world-class heart surgeon visiting from Minneapolis, or an international fashion designer from Prague. Let your imagination run wild! (Note – you may want to try this at locations outside your usual circuit, to avoid any confusion!)
4. Give Yourself the Gift of an Organized Space
Take some time to declutter those often ignored areas in your home. Are your drawers getting a little too stuffed to close? Are your closets overflowing with stuff? A decluttering project feels so satisfying and is a FREE way to upgrade both your space and your life. PS – you might even come up with some fun additional material for idea #3!)
5. Have an Adventure in Your Backyard!
Are you longing to take a trip, but don’t want to part with the cash? Why not take a trip to a space you already own! Even if you don’t have a backyard, you can spice up your daily routine by deciding to sleep somewhere else, like the living room floor! If you are blessed with a lawn, you can really go all out with a sleeping bag, campfire, and s’mores.
6. Find a local waterway and paddle it
Take a look for streams, rivers, or ponds in your area. It’s very likely that there are hidden gems you might be able to explore this summer. Why not have a great time in the warmer weather by getting outside by some water?
7. Complete a summer reading list
Summer is for reading! Remember those days in school where you’d come home with a list of books to choose from? Why not bring those days back with a curated reading list. Get together some suggestions from friends or books you’ve always wanted to read and get to it. Your local library is a great resource when it comes to books to read. Why not challenge a buddy to see who can check the most books off their list?
8. Learn a New Party Trick, like Origami or Juggling
Perfect or learn a party trick, like Origami or Juggling – Use the long summer days to perfect your entertaining skills. Hop online for some how tos or tutorial videos and learn that skill you’ve always wanted to master. Bonus points for a portable skill you can carry with you to your next get together!
9. Master a Card Trick
Learn a card trick – Ever want to learn a fancy card shuffle or mysteriously determine which card your friend pulled? Take this time to learn your way around a deck of cards. It beats being stuck in front of a screen for hours on end and may actually improve your cognitive ability.
10. Visit a dog park or cat cafe
If you already have a furry friend, why not introduce them to some pals? If you’re currently dog or cat-less, you can grab some furry time for yourself by heading out to your nearest dog park or cat cafe. This is a great chance to explore the fun of pet ownership without the cost.
