About “WellBehavedWallet”

Hello and welcome!

WellBehavedWallet started as my quest to eliminate debt and build real, sustainable wealth.

I began this process terrified and ashamed one chilly Sunday afternoon in January of 2006. It had been a good Christmas, but I had no steady income, a pile of maxed out credit cards, and stacks of accounts in default. I couldn’t make the minimum payments and creditors were jamming up my voicemail and home answering machine with angry messages.  I finally had to face the fact that my way wasn’t working. I felt like I had let down myself and my family. This was my rock bottom.

The first step was admitting to myself and to people I trusted that I had a problem. The next step was acknowledging that there was a solution. The third step was committing to work this solution down to the letter.

I started keeping track of every dollar I spent. I gradually got my income up and stopped going into debt. It took three long years, but I finally dug myself out of credit card debt and paid off my car. I went through the arduous process of rehabilitating and knocking out my student loans.

My goal every day is to love the life I have while building the life of my dreams. I do this by living below my means, being clear about my goals and taking steps toward reaching them every day, and spending my time and my money in ways that best align with my convictions.

My youtube channel “Well Behaved Wallet” became a place where I document the highs and lows of my journey. I aim to be helpful and transparent with my own path in hopes that my failures and successes might be able to inspire you in your financial journey. I maintain this statement: “I am an expert in NOTHING except my own experience”.

Now my mission is to reach out to people like you who are looking for a better way to run both their finances and their lives.
